		<abstract>This study aims to analyze the potential of the radar data acquired by the R99B/SAR sensor (L-band and HH and HV polarizations) to identify representative vegetation cover classes and to discriminate representative selective logged areas in the southern part of Para State, Brazil. It was analyzed a set of nine scenes obtained as part of the mission conducted by CENSIPAM and identified as the Mission of Terra do Meio in 2006. This mission was realized in three parts, in different moments. Promising results were showed by SAR data for discriminating between natural and antropogenetic vegetation covers as well as between natural vegetation of Amazonia biome from phytophysiognomies of other biomes. It was not possible to discriminate primary and secondary vegetation covers or among the forest covers located in riverstreams, lowlands and highlands. The radar imagery also showed poor results in terms of identification of selective logged areas, mainly because of 3-year time lag between field logging activities and airplane data acquisition. Another factor that may have contributed to the weak performance of the image segmentation of the R99B-SAR data was the use of the PROSAR software, which was conceived to allow rapid processing of large amounts of R99B-SAR raw data in operational systems such as MS Windows.</abstract>
